How to troubleshoot a non-responsive brake pedal in a BMW?

I recently noticed that my brake pedal in my BMW is not responding properly. When I press down on it, the car doesn't slow down as much as it used to. What could be causing this issue and how can I fix it?

It is possible that the brake pads and rotors are worn out and need to be replaced. This can be inspected by a mechanic and if needed, they can be replaced to improve braking performance.

Another possible issue could be air in the brake lines. Bleeding the brakes can remove any air pockets and improve pedal response.
