Why does my BMW i5's electric range decrease in cold weather?

I have noticed that the electric range of my BMW i5 is significantly lower during the winter months. Is this a normal occurrence or is there something wrong with my car?

Yes, it is normal for electric vehicle's range to decrease in cold weather. This is due to the fact that batteries are less efficient in low temperatures. To improve your range, try preheating your car while it is still plugged in so that the battery is warm before use.

I have also experienced a decrease in range during the winter months with my BMW i5. I have found that keeping the car in a garage or using a car cover can help to maintain the battery's temperature and improve range.
