Why is the BMW X1 engine making a ticking noise?

I recently purchased a BMW X1 and noticed that the engine makes a ticking noise when I start the car. It goes away after a few minutes of driving, but I'm concerned it might indicate a larger issue. Has anyone else experienced this and should I be worried?

It's common for BMW X1 engines to make a ticking noise when first started. This is usually due to the hydraulic valve lifters needing time to pump up with oil. As long as the noise goes away after a few minutes and isn't accompanied by any other issues, it shouldn't be a cause for concern.
