Why is the BMW M8's top speed limited?

I'm interested in purchasing a BMW M8 and I've read that its top speed is limited. Can someone explain why and if there's a way to remove this limitation?

The BMW M8's top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. This is a safety measure to ensure the car remains stable and safe at high speeds. However, there is an optional M Driver's Package that can increase the top speed to 190 mph.
