Why is the BMW i8 not considered a full electric vehicle?

I've heard that the BMW i8 is a hybrid car, but I don't understand why it's not considered a full electric vehicle. Can you explain the technical reasons for this?

The BMW i8 is indeed a hybrid car, which means it has both an electric motor and a gasoline engine. However, the electric motor in the i8 is primarily used to assist the gasoline engine, rather than being the sole source of power. This is why it's not considered a full electric vehicle.

In order to be considered a full electric vehicle, a car needs to have an electric motor as its sole source of power. The i8 has a small battery which can power the car for short distances, but ultimately it relies on its gasoline engine for longer trips. This is why it falls into the category of plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Although the i8 may not be a full electric vehicle, it still offers many benefits in terms of fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. The electric motor helps to improve the overall efficiency of the car, and it can also be charged from an external source, reducing the need for gasoline. It's a great option for those who want to reduce their carbon footprint without committing to a fully electric car.
