Why is my BMW X5 making a whirring noise?

I recently purchased a used BMW X5 and I've noticed a whirring noise coming from the engine. It seems to get louder when I accelerate. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Hi Jennifer, a whirring noise from the engine could indicate a worn out belt or a failing pulley. It's important to have this addressed as soon as possible to avoid any potential damage. I suggest taking your BMW to a certified mechanic for a thorough inspection and repair.
