Why is my BMW X3 engine making a loud ticking noise?

I've noticed that my BMW X3 has been making a loud ticking noise whenever I start the engine. It goes away after a few minutes of driving, but it's still concerning. What could be causing this and should I be worried?

Hi Matt, it's common for BMW engines to make a ticking noise when starting up. This is usually caused by the hydraulic valve lifters adjusting to oil pressure. As long as the noise goes away after a few minutes and you don't notice any performance issues, you shouldn't be worried. However, if the noise persists or gets worse, it's best to have it checked by a mechanic.

Hey Matt, I had the same issue with my BMW X3 and it turned out to be a faulty valve cover gasket. This was causing the engine to make a ticking noise due to oil leakage. I would recommend getting this checked by a mechanic as it could lead to bigger problems if not addressed.
