Why is my BMW 1 Series engine making a loud ticking noise?

I recently purchased a BMW 1 Series and noticed that the engine is making a loud ticking noise. I'm worried that this could be a sign of a bigger issue. Can anyone offer advice on what could be causing this noise and how I can fix it?

It is not uncommon for BMW engines to make a ticking noise, especially during start-up. However, if the noise continues or gets louder, it could be a sign of low oil levels or a faulty valve. I recommend checking your oil levels and if they are low, top them up. If the noise persists, it's best to take your car to a certified mechanic for a thorough inspection.

I had the same issue with my BMW 1 Series. After doing some research, I found out that it could be caused by a faulty VANOS solenoid. I took my car to a BMW dealership and they were able to replace it under warranty. I would recommend getting a diagnostics test done to pinpoint the exact cause of the noise.
