Why does the BMW X6 have a unique design?

I've noticed that the BMW X6 has a very unconventional design compared to other luxury SUVs. What inspired BMW to go with this design? Is there any practical purpose behind it?

The BMW X6 was designed to have a coupe-like profile to give it a more sporty and dynamic appearance. This design choice has also resulted in a lower drag coefficient, increasing the car's aerodynamics and improving fuel efficiency.
