Why does my BMW M1 have a high idle?

I recently bought a BMW M1 and noticed that it has a high idle speed. It revs at around 2000 RPM even when the engine is warm. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Hi Sophia, a high idle speed in a BMW M1 can be caused by several things. It could be a faulty idle air control valve, a dirty mass airflow sensor, or a vacuum leak. I recommend getting your car checked by a trusted mechanic to diagnose the specific issue and make the necessary repairs.

Hello Sophia, another possible cause of a high idle in a BMW M1 is a worn throttle position sensor. This sensor controls the amount of air flowing into the engine and if it is worn, it can cause the idle speed to increase. I suggest getting it checked and replaced if necessary.
