Why does my BMW 8 Series's engine sputter when starting in cold weather?

I have recently noticed that when starting my BMW 8 Series in cold weather, the engine seems to sputter and struggle to start. It eventually starts, but I am concerned about potential engine damage. What could be causing this and what steps should I take to address it?

It is likely that your engine is struggling because of the cold temperatures. Cold weather can cause the oil to thicken, making it harder for the engine to turn over. This can also be compounded if your battery is older and has a harder time providing enough power in colder weather. I would recommend getting a battery and oil check to ensure both are in good condition and consider investing in a winter-grade oil for colder weather.

I have experienced this issue with my own BMW 8 Series and it turned out to be a faulty fuel pump. When the weather is cold, the fuel pump has a harder time pushing gasoline through the engine, causing it to struggle to start. I would suggest getting your fuel pump checked and possibly replaced if necessary.
