Why does my BMW 2 Series have a rattling noise coming from the engine?

Whenever I start my BMW 2 Series, I can hear a loud rattling noise coming from the engine. It doesn't seem to affect the performance, but it's definitely concerning. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?
