Why do I hear a loud knocking noise from my BMW X1's engine?

I recently purchased a used BMW X1 and have noticed a loud knocking noise coming from the engine. It seems to happen mostly when I am accelerating. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

The most common cause of a knocking noise in an engine is a type of fuel called pre-ignition, which can be caused by using the wrong type of fuel or having incorrect fuel-to-air ratios. It is best to take your car to a trusted mechanic to have them check the engine and make any necessary adjustments or repairs.

Another possible cause of the knocking noise could be worn out or damaged engine bearings. These need to be replaced as soon as possible, as continued driving with damaged bearings can lead to more serious problems with the engine. I recommend taking your car to a mechanic for a thorough inspection.

In some cases, a knocking noise can be caused by low oil levels or using the wrong type of oil. Make sure to check your oil levels regularly and use the recommended oil grade for your specific model of BMW X1. If the issue persists, have a mechanic check for any other potential engine problems.
