Why are the brakes in my BMW 1 Series squeaking?

I recently bought a BMW 1 Series and noticed that the brakes are squeaking when I press on them. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Hi Lisa, squeaky brakes can be caused by a few different things. It's possible that there is build-up of dust or debris on your brake pads. I would recommend taking your car to a mechanic to have the brakes cleaned and inspected. They may also need to be replaced if they are worn down.
