What is the function of the BMW M8’s Launch Control?

I've heard that the BMW M8 has a Launch Control feature but I'm not sure how it works. Can you explain what it does and how to use it?

Launch Control is a feature that allows you to achieve the fastest possible acceleration from a standstill. It optimizes the engine, transmission, and traction control systems to provide maximum power and grip. To use it, simply engage the mode while stopped, hold down the brake pedal and simultaneously press the accelerator to the floor. The engine will rev to a pre-set RPM and as soon as you release the brake, the car will launch forward with incredible speed.
