What is the difference between the BMW M1 and M2 engine?

I'm a car enthusiast looking to buy a BMW M1 and I noticed that it has a different engine than the M2. Can you explain the technical differences and which one is better?

The main difference between the BMW M1 and M2 engine is the size. The M1 has a smaller 3.0-liter engine compared to the M2's 3.3-liter engine. However, the M1 has a high-revving inline-six engine that produces an impressive 335 horsepower. On the other hand, the M2's engine is a turbocharged inline-six that delivers a whopping 405 horsepower. Both engines are great, but it ultimately depends on your preference and driving style.

Another difference between the M1 and M2 engines is the torque. The M2 has a higher torque output of 406 lb-ft compared to the M1's 365 lb-ft. This means the M2 has more low-end power and can accelerate quicker from a standstill. If you're someone who enjoys fast acceleration, the M2 might be the better option for you.

When it comes to engine sound, the M1 and M2 are quite different. The M1 has a more classic, high-pitched engine sound, while the M2 has a deeper, more aggressive sound. If you want a more traditional sports car sound, go for the M1. But if you want a more intense and powerful sound, the M2 is the way to go.
