How to troubleshoot overheating issue in BMW 5 Series?

I have a BMW 5 Series and I have noticed that it's been overheating recently. I've checked the coolant levels and they seem normal. What could be causing this issue and what steps should I take to troubleshoot it?

First of all, check the radiator for any signs of damage or leaks. If everything looks fine, then the next step would be to check the thermostat. A faulty thermostat can sometimes cause overheating. Also, make sure the water pump is functioning properly. Another possibility could be a clogged radiator. Have it flushed or replaced if necessary. If none of these steps help, then it could be an issue with the head gasket. I would recommend taking it to a certified mechanic for further diagnosis.

In addition to what John Doe mentioned, also make sure the cooling fan is working. Sometimes a faulty fan can cause overheating. If the fan is functioning properly, then it could be an issue with the temperature sensor. Have it checked and replaced if necessary. Keep an eye on the engine temperature while driving, if it keeps rising, then pull over and let it cool down before continuing your journey. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

I had a similar issue with my BMW 5 Series and it turned out to be a faulty water pump. I got it replaced and haven't faced any overheating issues since then. So, I would suggest having the water pump checked by a mechanic as well. And always make sure to use genuine coolant for your vehicle, as using the wrong type of coolant can also cause problems.
