I recently bought a used BMW Z4 and I'm not sure how to properly check the transmission fluid levels. Can someone provide me with step-by-step instructions?
ReplyFirst, locate the transmission fluid dipstick under the hood. It is usually labeled and has a bright colored handle. Next, start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Then, with the engine still running, pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a cloth. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out again to read the fluid level. It should be between the minimum and maximum marks. If it is below the minimum mark, add more transmission fluid.
To be sure of the correct fluid level, park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Wait a few minutes for the fluid to settle, then follow the same steps as before to check the fluid level. If it is still low, add more fluid as needed. It is important not to overfill the transmission fluid as it can cause damage to the system.
