First, make sure that your coolant levels are at the proper levels. Low coolant levels can cause overheating. Also, check for any leaks in the coolant system and have them repaired if necessary. Additionally, make sure that your radiator is functioning properly and not clogged. If these basics are in check, then it could be an issue with the water pump or thermostat. I suggest taking your vehicle to a trusted mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.

Regularly flushing and replacing your coolant can also help prevent engine overheating. In addition, consider using a higher quality coolant for your BMW XM. It may also be beneficial to clean or replace your radiator fan to ensure proper cooling. As always, if the issue persists, have a professional mechanic take a look to identify any underlying issues.

Another potential cause of engine overheating could be a faulty temperature sensor. This could lead to incorrect readings and causing your engine to overheat. If you are experiencing any other issues with your vehicle's temperature gauge or warning lights, have it checked by a mechanic as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
