How do I update the software in my BMW X5?

I just purchased a BMW X5 but I noticed that some of the software features seem outdated. How can I update the software to ensure I have the latest and greatest features?

The software in your BMW X5 can be updated through the iDrive system. Simply go to the Settings menu, select Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions.
