How do I troubleshoot a misfiring issue on my BMW 3 Series?

I have noticed that my BMW 3 Series is experiencing a misfiring issue. The car jerks and has reduced power when accelerating. I recently had my spark plugs replaced, so that shouldn't be the issue. What else could be causing this problem?

First, make sure the ignition coil is functioning properly. A malfunctioning coil can cause a misfire. If that checks out, then it could be a problem with the fuel injectors. Have those checked and cleaned if necessary. Another possible cause could be a clogged or dirty air filter, so be sure to check and replace it if needed.

You may also want to have the engine control module (ECM) checked to ensure it is not causing the misfire. And don't forget to check the electrical connections to the spark plugs and coil to make sure they are secure. If everything checks out and the misfiring persists, it could be a more serious issue such as a faulty catalytic converter.
