How do I reset the trip odometer in my BMW X3?

I recently purchased a used BMW X3 and I can't figure out how to reset the trip odometer. The manual is not clear and I don't want to accidentally reset my overall mileage. Can someone please provide a step-by-step guide on how to do this?

To reset the trip odometer in your BMW X3, first press the trip reset button located on your instrument panel.

Hold down the trip reset button for a few seconds until the trip odometer resets to zero. Release the button and your tripometer will be reset.
