How do I reset the BMW 6 Series oil maintenance light?

I recently purchased a used BMW 6 Series and the oil maintenance light has come on. I'm not sure how often the previous owner changed the oil or if it was done at a dealership. How do I reset the oil maintenance light and do I need to do anything else other than just changing the oil?

To reset the oil maintenance light on your BMW 6 Series, first make sure the vehicle is turned off. Then, press and hold the BC button on the left stalk until the hidden service menu appears on the dashboard. Use the toggle button on the end of the stalk to navigate to the 'service item' option and press and hold the BC button again to select it. From there, scroll to 'reset flat tire monitor' and press and hold the BC button once more. Finally, select 'confirm reset' and the oil maintenance light should be reset. As for changing the oil, it's always a good idea to have it done at a dealership for peace of mind and proper maintenance. However, make sure to check the owner's manual for recommended oil change intervals based on your driving habits.

Another way to reset the oil maintenance light on your BMW 6 Series is to turn the key to the 'on' position (without starting the engine) and press the gas pedal to the floor and release it five times within five seconds. Then, turn off the key and start the car. This should reset the light. As for oil changes, it's important to have them done on schedule or even slightly earlier, depending on your driving habits. Neglecting oil changes can lead to engine damage and costly repairs.
