How do I check the oil level in my BMW XM?

I recently purchased a BMW XM and I want to make sure I am taking proper care of it. How do I check the oil level and what should I be looking for?

To check the oil level in your BMW XM, first make sure the engine is cool and the car is on a level surface. Then, locate the dipstick near the front of the engine. Pull it out and wipe it clean with a cloth. Reinsert it fully and pull it back out to get an accurate reading. The oil level should be between the min and max marks on the dipstick.
